What Is Nerve Monitoring?

Nerve monitoring during thyroidectomy is an important technique used to minimize the risk of recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) damage, which can lead to voice changes or breathing difficulties. The RLN, which controls the vocal cords, runs very close to the thyroid gland, making it vulnerable during surgery. By using specialized intraoperative nerve monitoring, the nerve's function can be tracked in real time.

Dr Wu routinely utilizes nerve monitoring during all thyroid operations.
