What Is A Breast MDT?
A Breast Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) is a group of healthcare professionals from various specialties who collaborate to provide comprehensive care for patients with breast cancer. The MDT typically includes a breast surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, radiologist, pathologist and breast care nurse. Other specialists, such as plastic surgeons, genetic counselors or physiotherapists, may also be involved depending on the patient's needs. The team meets regularly to discuss individual cases, review imaging and pathology results, and develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to the patient’s specific diagnosis and circumstances.

The role of the Breast MDT is to ensure that all aspects of breast cancer treatment are considered and that the patient receives the most effective and appropriate care. By bringing together experts from different fields, the MDT can evaluate the best options for surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, and reconstructive procedures, while also considering the patient's emotional and psychological well-being. This collaborative approach helps ensure that treatment decisions are evidence-based, coordinated, and aligned with the patient’s preferences, leading to the best possible outcomes in both survival and quality of life.

Dr Wu is a member of several breast MDTs that she attends regularly and all of her breast cancer patients will be discussed (sometimes before treatment begins, sometimes after surgery is done), and a tailored recommendation will be given for every patient.
